LAST CALL: «Clinical and Research Databases» Community of Practice!

The «Clinical and Research Databases» Community of Practice (CoP) starts in 5 days through the AFRICA BUILD PORTAL!

This is a Community of Practice which aims to compose a hub of knowledge and expertise built by collaboration means.

It aims to be the starting point to all these African health professionals interested in storage and information retrieval. So, active participation is a requisite

NOTE: We have decided to give certificates of accomplishment (in the AFRICA BUILD name) to those participants who actively post on the group discussions!

All the community activity will be centered on the «Clinical and Research Databases (Community of Practice)» Group.

Initially, this community will be assisted during 8 weeks but we hope to gather enough professionals willing to contribute in order to keep this group active in the following months.

The outline of this CoP will be the following:

  • 1st WEEK [Mar 17 – Mar 23]: INTRODUCTION

We will discuss about the motivations, foundations and basic concepts, as well as, the different existing types of DDBB.

  • 2nd WEEK [Mar 24 – Mar 30]: STRUCTURED QUERY LANGUAGE (SQL)

We will discuss about the basic elements of the relational database languages: DDL, DML and DCL.

  • 3rd & 4th WEEKS [Mar 31 – Apr 13]: MySQL FROM THE PRACTICE

We will pose several challenges to be solved through a community effort.

  • 5th & 6th WEEKS [Apr 14 – Apr 27]: PUBLIC DATABASES

We will carry out a community research effort to gather the most important public biomedical databases.

  • 7th  & 8th WEEKS [Apr 28 – May 11]: FUTURE OF CLINICAL & RESEARCH INFORMATION STORAGE & RETRIEVAL

We will carry out a community research effort to build the state of the art of the modern biomedical information storage and retrieval systems.
